ACCEL CAMBER

The ultimate super short board: the magic board for those who like quick and responsive performance snowboards. This board has been designed based on Mads Jonsson's Flyfisk model and the Rocket Fish's bottom profile. It combines classic features like the Pointy Nose and the Diamond Tail with Gentemstick's original Acceleration Camber system. This series of boards might become our flagship series of the coming generation.

FUNCTION

ACCEL CAMBER

The idea of traditional camber is to apply the same amount of pressure onto the entire edge of a board to attain smoother, more stable carving and turning.

The camber arches from the center of the board all the way to 3 cm inside of the widest point of a board, both the nose and the tail. To turn, this camber has to be stepped on and the bottom pressed against the surface. This type of camber is effective at a resort, compacted slope or on a flat face. But it has lots of demerit on deep powder, fresh snow, or terrains with three-dimensional features. It is arched against the direction of the board, and the board could get hooked on the snow easily, making the turn less agile.

The GENTEMSTICK’s radical Accel camber eliminates hooking and prevents nosedives in deep powder or fresh snow, while maintaining a natural floatation. It is designed and shaped to perform its best when the rider stands neutrally on top of a board. It is made flat from the widest point of the nose side to about the front foot. The arch begins there and reaches the highest around the back foot, and it ends at the widest point of the tail side. When a rider stands on the board, the arch gets pushed and the area ahead of the front foot barely touches the snow.

This is the position that maximizes the performance of the board, and also the same position that reaches maximum velocity in ski races and other speed competitions. Accel camber has an arch from point A to point B. The board becomes flat as the back foot pressures the board. It rises slightly from the point C to the nose, which effectively reduces snow resistance. There are boards with similar camber designs released from major manufacturers these days. It is important to remember that the nose rocker design becomes very important with this kind of camber system, which has the peak of its arch placed further behind the center of a board. The GENTEMSTICK Accel camber boards are distinctly designed, especially from the point where the camber ends to the widest point of the nose. The key is to reduce resistance.

Truly an amazing Snowboard! I am used to ride longer Boards with much more effektive Edge. My first day on the Hornet the conditions were pretty hard and icey, so it was a bit of a struggle for me to handle this short Board and get some "surfy" feeling. But on my second day the snow was soft and in the afternoon slushy, and I immedeately felt comfortable. Higher speed and carving was like effortless, even on really steep slopes (the "Sylvester" at Kronplatz, Italy ;)). The reaction of the Hornet is so quick and the wide nose maneuvers so easy through three dimensional terrain and bumps, it is so much fun searching for the best line and still having the feeling of surfing!Unfortunately I could not ride it in the Powder yet, but I am very excited to do so.Thank you Taro Tamai for shaping such great Snowboards!

I am an intermediate rider and have been riding for 7 seasons mainly in Japan, Europe and Australia.I have the 2018/2019 version of the Hornet and have been riding it for the past few seasons in various conditions. The wide base makes it very stable underfoot and turns are predictable at a medium fast pace edge to edge. The rocker at the nose gives ease of entry into turns. It also performs very well on soft snow and floats like a dream. Surfing the snow is made effortless with the setback stance. Those who loves carving will not be disappointed. This board carves relatively well and there is definitely no feat of heel or toe drags. It has medium torsional flex and you are able to twist the board to create your desired lines.Riding switch is definitely possible but I personally only does it when setting up for small jumps and features. You can butter with this board especially on the big nose! This is not the most poppy board but you can definitely ollie with this board despite the short tail.Overall, this board is made for cruising the whole mountain and is suitable for varies levels of riders (except for beginners) who are looking for a versatile board to carve the groomers and surf the famous Japow!

Finally got the chance to ride my Hornet in Powder. Again: what an amazing Board and what a smooth and surfy feeling! Due to the wide nose and the taper, there is no need to switch the weight on the back foot, you just have to stay centered and go for it. I am very glad to have this Board in my quiver!
